Clinton Public Schools is planning on implementing a new option for instruction called THRIVE Academy. It’s an alternative option attempting to meet more needs.
Assistant Supt. Melissa Knabe talked about what THRIVE looks like, and some of the possibilities it provides to students and families. This option for alternative instruction is only allowed for middle school and high school students, but it can be more specified toward the needs of particular students.
THRIVE has three main versions of asynchronous instruction that are available which are full-time virtual model, blended, and THRIVE FLEX. Each of these choices differs on how the instructional learning looks to the students and how they receive one-on-one face time with their instructor. This version of schooling is taking a similar approach as online college. The full-time virtual model allows students to be considered CPS students, but their instruction is online. There is a certified teacher that will check in with the progress of the student, and give updates as necessary during the course of the learning. The way it was described is this option is ideal if a student’s family is away from home and the district for an extended period of time, but still wishes to be enrolled and plans to return to in person instruction. This model also assists with students that have busy schedules in their personal lives such as with agriculture or personal activities.
