Scanner still considered valuable tool

Often people can be dubious of purchasing an extended warranty, but at Monday’s board meeting the Custer County commissioners wanted as much information as possible for the Sorter RS Full Body Scanner in use at the Custer County Jail.

The machine was purchased in July of 2024 for $152,950, and it came with a two-year warranty. The current warranty is set to expire on July 24, so the commissioners and the other county leaders talked about extending it further. It was originally purchased in conjunction with the Custer County Sheriff’s Office and the county itself.

Talks began with just how long the machine has been in operation at the county jail.
