Oklahoma has a program that will reimburse the travel to doctor’s appointments and even local grocery stores.
SORTPO (Southwest Oklahoma Regional Transportation Planning Organization) has a program called TRIP (Transportation Reimbursement Initiative Program) that seeks to help out individuals living in rural communities. This program is possible because of a five-year grant with the Oklahoma State Department of Health as a way to address gaps in transportation needs across southwest Oklahoma.
Cristi Williams, a mobility manager with SORTPO, gives more information about how this program works. She emphasizes they do not provide transportation. A client or an individual needing transportation for medical care, pharmacy trips, grocery stores, or other health-related programs is able to get financial reimbursements for these trips. This reimbursement is allotted to the individual that drove the client to their destination, whether that is a family member, friend, church member, or even themselves.
