Wheat crop, dry conditions discussed by county leaders

This season’s wheat crop was one of the top items of discussion at Monday’s Custer County commissioners’ meeting at the courthouse.

OSU Extension Director Larry Bryen apprised the county leaders of the shape of the land.

“It’s dry – super dry,” he said. “The cool weather’s helped the wheat somewhat, but the percentage is way down, extremely dry. We just need some moisture. Someone mentioned ponds going dry. Sulfate numbers are increasing still. I know the state vets work on that quite a bit. We’re not seeing much change.”
