Owen Lavigne, a senior at Arapaho-Butler Schools, was awarded the Congressional Award Gold Medal for community services and personal growth. This is the highest honor a civilian youth can receive.
Lavigne is an Eagle Scout for Scouting America, formally the Boy Scouts of America, and has been with the group since 2014. To work to the level of Eagle Scout, he had to earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, served in a leadership role, and completed a community service project all before the age of 18. Upon doing some research, his father, Sean Lavigne, discovered the program for the Congressional Award as a challenge his son may be willing to take on.
The Congressional Award was created to encourage and inspire American youth. Available to all youth in the U.S. between the ages of 14 and 24, it is the highest honor a civilian youth can receive, and only requires a set number of requirements to achieve.
