40 YEARS AGO Clinton’s Dollar General Store sponsored a “Why My Mom is the Best” essay contest for Annie Scarlett’s secondgrade class in honor of Mother’s Day. Store manager Gerry Kirkman presented each child a silk rose to take to his or her mother and gifts to the top three placers for their mothers.
