Late miscues cost Reds in opener

Walks and a couple errors in the sixth inning undid the Clinton baseball team’s 6-4 lead, and the Reds (0-1 overall) were unable to get it back in a 7-6 season-opening loss to the Cache Bulldogs (4-0) Thursday night at home. CHS put itself in solid position to get the win in the fifth inning.

Clinton track places multiple at home

The Clinton High School track program competed in its second meet of the season, Thursday at home, and numerous CHS athletes placed in the top three. The 800-meter relay took home first for the boys with a time of 1:41.34.

Clinton fights stout wind at Guthrie

GUTHRIE – Strong wind gusts welcomed a new batch of Clinton starting golfers Wednesday in Guthrie’s Tournament at Cimarron National Golf Club. The Reds shot 382 as a team and placed in the back third of the pack, according to CHS head golf coach Mike Lee. He didn’t get the official ranking yet.

Cisneros leaves entertaining legacy on the court

There’s a big-play gene in Clinton senior Zade Cisneros, and it showed itself early in his varsity career on the football field and basketball court. As a sophomore, Cisneros made the first, defining moment of the John Higbee era, a pick six on the opening possession of the 2018 season.

CHS bags big wins over Southeast

Tuesday night’s home opener for the Clinton soccer program ended with two prominent victories, as the Clinton girls (1-2 overall) picked up their first win of the season, 10-0, and the CHS boys (3-0) maintained an undefeated start and got some revenge on Southeast, 2-1.

Tennis gets reps at Westwood Tourney

NORMAN – Tourney No. 1 of the Clinton tennis season was more about shaking the rust off against Class 5A and 6A competition Tuesday at the Westwood Tournament in Norman. Longtime CHS head tennis coach Phil Veazey said he put four doubles teams together for the brackets.

Clinton baseball starts Thursday

Like all spring sports returning to play, the Clinton baseball team will jump headfirst into the somewhat unknown at 5 p.m. Thursday, when it hosts Cache for the season opener. The Reds played all of one game last year, a 5-4, walk-off win against Elk City.

Jennings used work on gridiron to help CHS

A work-heavy offseason and added confidence on the football field made senior Tavious Jennings a better player for the Clinton boys’ basketball team this past winter.

Reds’ year ends in area tourney

ENID – True to form, the Clinton boys’ basketball team (15-7 overall) rose above adversity from early on in the area consolation semis Friday, against No. 12 John Marshall (16- 7), but it just wasn’t enough, falling 67-58, to end the season.
