Lady Reds stifle Woodward in win

It becomes clearer each time out that the Clinton girls’ basketball team is difficult to score on, and even without its full roster again Thursday night, CHS held Woodward’s offense down in a 36-32 win at the Tornado Dome. It’s the sixth opponent the team has held under 40 points this season.

Teams look to playoffs

Three area programs are closing in on the postseason. The Clinton varsity wrestling team wrapped up its dual season with a record of 3-3 in a difficult slate. The Red Tornadoes will now focus on the regional tournament and trying to qualify for state.

Sutton gives max effort to CHS

From his sophomore year on, Clinton senior guard Keison Sutton decided that he wanted to make basketball his primary focus for his high school athletics career.

CHS in final stretch

The Clinton basketball teams are hitting the final stretch of the regular season. Clinton’s girls have a fairly favorable schedule in their last four (Elgin, Newcastle, Bethany and Woodward), while the Reds are facing four straight ranked teams.

Reds further recent reign over Darko

Clutch free throws in the final minute from Atrel Bryson and a late-game take over by Caden Powell helped the Clinton boys’ basketball team (9-4 overall) to its fourth win in the last five games, against Anadarko Tuesday night at the Tornado Dome, 64-56.

Bryson named to OCA All-State team

There’s no doubt that the Clinton football team wouldn’t have made its state championship runner-up run without senior star running back/free safety Atrel Bryson, and the Oklahoma Coaches Association acknowledged that, honoring him with an All-State West roster spot at running back.

Clinton ties for second at Hub

A few weeks removed from narrow district losses to Cache and Weatherford, the Clinton wrestling team proved it was better than its initial performances, earning a second-place tie with Weatherford at the Hub City Tournament this weekend, while defeating the Bulldogs by one point.

Reds split home, three-team dual

A 14-point lead heading into the final three weights faded, as the Clinton wrestling team (1-3 overall) fell to No. 11 Newcastle, 37-33, and then bounced back to beat an undermanned Kingfisher squad, 51-18, in a three-team dual Thursday at the Tornado Dome.

Area sports update

The Clinton High School wrestling team commences its annual Hub City Classic at 11 a.m. today. The tourney will start at the same time on day two. The classic features 13 teams, including Class 3A, No. 1 Marlow, 4A, No. 10 Cache and 4A, No. 12 Weatherford.
